Words from the Lawyer
I am so happy that you have found me through ChineseinBoston.com for your personal injury case! Hopefully I will be the right lawyer for you, and you the right client for me. Choosing a lawyer is an extremely personal experience. You must have trust and confidence in your attorney, and you must respect each other and want to work together.
With my years of experience I am able to evaluate your case and make practical recommendations. I provide personal attention and help you locate competent doctors for your treatment and rehabilitation. Your well-being and health is of the utmost importance. I care about my clients and strive to treat everyone as a top priority. And of course, as with the hundreds of clients I have represented, I am committed to getting you the best financial outcome, whether it be by settlement or in the courtroom.
When you reach out to me you should expect a fast reply, and I strive to keep you updated. I am available by phone, email, appointments, Wechat, Zoom, and texts. Currently I am focusing on personal injury and car accident cases. But, many people look to me as their personal attorney, providing general practice advice and representation, as well as referrals to attorneys with other specialties.
My father was raised in Kunming, China, and my mother comes from the State of Virginia. With a bi-cultural background, I am often able to assist clients in understanding the American system while appreciating and understanding their perspectives. I am proud to have worked with the Chinese community throughout my career. Many may remember my representation of Long Guang Huang, a victim of police brutality, who himself was charged with a crime in the Boston Municipal Court. At the time, anti-Asian violence was a serious American issue, as it now is. With the help of the Chinese community, I was successful in defending Mr. Huang, and the jury returned a verdict of “not guilty.” His trial and the activism supporting Mr. Huang was a landmark in the Asian American fight for equal rights.
Many people call the office looking for a Chinese lawyer. While I do speak some Mandarin Chinese, I work with Chinese translators to make sure that Chinese clients can communicate effectively. Fortunately, members of the Asian American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts are often available to represent Chinese clients.
From the Asian American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts (“AALAM”)
AALAM was also involved in one controversial case in 1986 where a Chinatown resident, Long Guang Huang, was brutally beaten by police and arrested for allegedly soliciting a prostitute. AALAM came out in strong numbers to ensure that he received fair treatment. They (and others) filled the courtroom with supporters and carried out protests outside the courtroom. It was recalled that the attorney defending the police was "racist and abusive," and AALAM filed a complaint. Virginia Lee took the case on a pro bono basis and was successful in defending the resident and securing an acquittal, which was a "very special moment" in the minds of many members.
